SYSTEM TESTING

Glassline’s systems undergo stringent tests for weather tightness, seismic movements, building movements, dynamic, impact, acoustics and fire rating. The Tests are carried out on valid prototypes of the actual building, at third party accredited laboratories. The purpose of the tests is to verify that the design of the proposed system(s), when assembled under ideal conditions in the laboratory, meets the project’s design criteria. It also shows us where the critical details are.

The tests done on our facades cover:

Air Infiltration: an airtight chamber is constructed on one side of the mock-up. The test consists of measuring the flow of air from the chamber and deducting from it the flow of air attributable to the chamber itself.

Static Water Penetration test: consists of creating a pressure differential across the specimen (with the lower pressure on the inside of the specimen), and spraying water uniformly on the exterior.

Wind Resistance test: consists of pressurizing the chamber (both positive and negative) to simulate wind generated pressure.

Dynamic Water Penetration: where air from a large wind generator is directed at the specimen at the same time as the water spray.

Seismic test: where one of the support beams is jacked in three cycles of lateral displacements.

Building Movement Tests: achieved by displacing the support beams of the façade by hydraulic cylinders vertically and/or horizontally.

Large scale Fire propagation test: addresses the risk of fire in exterior building cladding. The test consists of one room over another with a gas burner in the lower room to simulate a fire.

Acoustic Testing: done in specialized laboratories to check the sound reduction achieved by the facade system.

Impact Test: both soft and hard body impact tests

 

To date, more than 50 tests have been successfully carried out according to ASTM, BS, EN or CWCT standards. The Vitrocsa sliding system passed one of the most stringent tests for minimalistic facades achieving Class 9A for Water penetration, and resisted a wind of 305 Km/h. Higher performances were achieved by Wicona systems.
